There are too many curry shops in Asahikawa that you don’t know where to go ? Our reporter and curry-lover, ryo, will take you around Asahikawa and tell you about the best curry shops he found!
The first place is a curry shop located in a supermarket called Toukou. It has this kind of nostalgic atmosphere: it feels like you eat in a school classroom.
The main characteristic of this shop is its special menu which changes every two months!
This is what our reporter is looking forward for every times he comes there.
This time, he ate a bean-based soup curry.
It has a mild taste, and left a deep aftertaste!
The thick sauce goes well with rice.
About the rice, this shop serves a fairly large amount of rice, and if this is not enough for you, you can have seconds for free.
All dishes have plenty of ingredients in it, this is very satisfying!

It is a little hideaway shop in the residential area of Kagura.
In addition to being able to drink a delicious home-made roasted coffee, the curry is also very popular.
From Wikipedia:
Katsukare is a Japanese dish consisting of a pork cutlet (tonkatsu) served with a portion of Japanese rice and curry.
The cutlet is huge! This voluminous dish had a big impact on our writer!
Bacon, french fries, potato salad and cheese.
The curry is medium spicy. The spiciness comes out with the aftertaste.
Our reporter can’t handle spicy food very well but the rich aroma of the spices makes the eater wants to eat more and more.
The cutlet is crispy !
Our writer was worried about wether he would be able to finish his meal or not, but he was able to do that easily.
Recommended to people who wants to eat a heavy and satisfying curry.

This is again, a hideaway shop in a residential area of Toyooka.
After hesitating between pork or chicken our writer went for the usual chicken curry.
The soup is smooth with a deep, well-balanced spicy taste.
Even if you choose the first level of spiciness for your meal, you can still feel the flavours of the spices.
The fresh fried vegetables are sweet and delicious.
Even people who don't like vegetables may like them.
The crispy cabbage texture goes also well with the curry.
The curry not only contains a lot of vegetables in the roux but a salad is also included in the set.
And a drink is included too!
This curry shop tastes good and have a great value. Our reporter recommends it!

Our writer has been there once before but recently, he had the chance to visit the restaurant again and, as in his memories, it was delicious.
In this curry shop you can add flavoured oils, like the chili oil, for free.
He ordered a kakuni soup curry.
The simmered kakuni made quite a presence in the dish.
From Wikipedia:
Kakuni is a Japanese braised pork dish which literally means "square simmered".
Kakuni is a popular regional product of Kyushu, particularly Nagasaki.
Moreover, it doesn’t have a lot of fat and is easy to eat, perfect with the soup.
And that soup! Our reporter added shrimp oil for free. At first, our writer feared that the shrimp oil would be too strong and hide the other flavours.
But that wasn’t the case.
The shrimp oil had a faint flavour, just enough to be in harmony with the rest of the dish. It’s delicious and the meal goes on.
The oil was not heavy and somewhat refreshing.
Women would like this kind of taste in our writer opinion.
In this curry shop, you can arrange your curry to your liking. We recommend this place to people who likes to customise their dishes and/or is picky about the flavours.
