Outstanding Japanese traditional restaurants to enjoy and relax!

You may think that those kinds of restaurants are luxuries and only used for banquets and dinners. This is partially true. But their lunches and services are top-classes too. I'm sure that you will appreciate your lunch time there.

Japanese food Tamagawa

Tamagawa attracts many foodies with its authentic Japanese cuisine: they serve blowfish and crab dishes.
Lunch sets are basically the same type as the evening ones, there are various course meals and some reasonable-priced courses.

Our writer chose the crab-based “snow course” and “moon course”, both at a reasonable price.

The two courses start with a simple salad.

Soon after that, the snow course-limited sashimi is served.
Next is chawanmushi (available in both courses).

Our writer is always impressed with this chawanmushi.
The light soup stock and the slight scent of yuzu, this is an exquisite dish.
Like this, Tamagawa always conveys the best of the Japanese cuisine.

Fried shells on the snow course and grilled fish on the moon course are the next dishes.

Chawanmushi: soy sauce, dashi and mirin flavoured steamed egg custard with mushrooms, chicken, shrimps, etc…

Deep-fried shells are not the usual gratin type. The fatty meat is fried.
Our writer felt in love with this one.

After finishing each dish, the waitress will serve the Kamameshi at the end of the course.

Kamameshi is a dish in which rice, meat and vegetable are served in a small pot.

Of course, the freshly cooked Kamameshi was served hot.
It had a mild flavour, a nice scent and was incredibly delicious.

It is maybe because our writer savoured each one of the dishes slowly, but he is satisfied with his meal.
And at the very end, our writer had desserts (both courses) and was finished.

Tenkin

Tenkin has a large menu of traditional dishes, from seafood to sushi, tempura, and eel.
There are three lunchtime sets named "The emperor's lunch set".

In this article, we will introduce the A lunch and the B lunch.

Above is the A course.
The side dishes change monthly. Chawanmushi and miso soup are included with the lunchbox.
The restaurant's lunch includes drink. You can choose between coffee, oolong tea, orange juice, as well as glass wine or glass beer.
And yes, of course, our writer chose beer.

Below is the B course.

This is a set of sushi, tempura, soup, chawanmushi, and dessert.
In addition to the vegetable tempura, you can order two of your favorite tempura from shrimp, scallops, sillago, and squid.
Sushi is showed as nigiri sushi on the menu, but you can change it to chirashi sushi.

Both courses have a large number of dishes so you will surely be satisfied.

Wasanjo Kataoka

Looking like an old and stylish house, Kataoka is well-known for its delicious Japanese cuisine made with selected ingredients sent directly from the production area.
The counter seats overlooking the courtyard are somewhat unexpected and relaxing.

There are 4 sets available on the lunchtime menu.

The sets are limited at 10 meals per day.
In addition to those above, lunchtime course meals are also available.

Our writer ordered a simmered sea bream head set meal.

The simmered sea bream head is a dish unique to this kind of restaurant.
The owner trained at a restaurant in Osaka.
There are also small bowl dishes, and sashimi to go with the sea bream.

It's well cooked and delicious.
The fish has been cut in small parts to be easily eat.
This kind of food often has a rather sweet and/or salty strong taste when eaten locally in Asahikawa. But, maybe because the cook trained in Osaka, the fish here had a surprisingly light and high-quality taste.

The next picture is the tempura set meal.

Lastly, a cup of coffee was served (included in the price).
The food comes out relatively quickly, you can come here during lunch break, for example. Of course, you can also relax and take your time too!
The after-meal coffee tastes the best when looking out at the courtyard.
