Introduced as a military city in the popular comic and anime « Golden Kamuy », many fans are going on a trip to visit the places that appeared in their favorite comic. Here are the spots around Asahikawa from which Golden Kamuy events are inspired.
Kamuy-Kotan is where the Ishikari River the most rapid: the width of the river suddenly narrows and the flow of the river becomes intense. The water is deep and its deepest spot can reach 70m.
A lot of Ainu had accidents here, when travelling or transporting goods. The Ainu thought of these happenings as a mischief of Nitnekamuy (meaning « Bad God »), living is the gorge.
This is also why this Ainu village was called Kamuy-Kotan, the village where (the Bad) God lives.
In Golden Kamuy, Kamuy-kotan is where Toshizo Hijikata cuts a suspension bridge and drops Shiraishi, the King of Jailbreak, into the river to prevent him from being taken to the 7th Division. After that, Kiroranke saved him with a wooden boat.
The current Kamuy Oobashi Bridge is not a suspension bridge, so it cannot be cut off with a sword.
However, there is a signboard saying that more than 100 people cannot cross at once.
This is the Ishikari River where the Jailbreak King Shiraishi fell.
From now on, the banks of the Ishikari River will be vividly colored with autumn leaves, and you will be able to enjoy the best scenery.
