Kamuy-Kotan
Kamuy-Kotan, a popular sightseeing spot in Asahikawa.
Along with Asahibashi, Arashiyama, and Mihonrin, Kamuy-Kotan is included in the « best eight views » of Asahikawa.
Located on Route 12, our reporter often go past near the iconic suspension bridge but this time for the first time she crossed it.
The name of the suspension bridge is "Kamuy Ohashi".
The view from the bridge was wonderful: the Ishikari River is curving right where the bridge is.
After crossing the bridge, our reporter went up the stairs to see an old steam locomotive.
The steam locomotive was huge and very impressive.
The former station building of the Kamuy-Kotan station has been conserved. You are free to see the inside.
The platform remained as it was in the past and our reporter could almost see the old railways.
You can enjoy here history-packed sightseeing spots in Asahikawa along with the autumn leaves.

Asahikawa’s Green counselling center
The green counselling center located in Kaguraoka Park is a beautiful spot for the autumn leaves.
Since Kaguraoka Park is situated near our reporter house, she mentioned that she used to go there a lot. However it is only recently that she noticed how beautiful the autumn leaves are here.
By the way, it is also a great spot to see the cherry blossom.
When you park your car in the parking lot and enter, you will find a lot of sweet and nice scents.
This is the scent of the round-leaved katsura tree (Japanese Judas tree).
It smelled like cotton-candy!
As our reporter entered in the green counselling center area, she could see many maple trees.
Maple trees’ leaves slowly change colour from green to yellow, orange and red.
Some maple green leaves suddenly turn red from the tips, some leaves gradually become redder and redder. Some leaves fall when they are still yellow.
The shape of the leaves is also unique to every leaf and tree.
Our reporter had fun by closely observing the maple trees leaves.

Tokiwa Park
For many people, Tokiwa Park the most beautiful place to see the autumn leaves in Asahikawa.
The view from the Taiko Bridge to Kamikawa Shrine Tongu, the area around Chidorigaike Pond, and Tsukiyama where the old observatory is located, are all superb.
If you walk along the Chidorigaike Pond, you can see the red leaves of the entire park.
When the pond is calm, the autumn leaves are reflected on the surface of the water creating a very beautiful landscape!
When going to the library, take the exit on the park side and walk in the park.
If you go up to the embankment, you will be able to see the Asahibashi Bridge and, if you’re lucky enough to have a clear sky, you will be able to see the Daisetsuzan Mountains in the background.
This is the best way to feel autumn for our reporter.

Asahikawa is showing one of its best landscapes!
The red leaves are the best viewed from mid October to early November.
Let’s enjoy the short autumn scenery before the snow covers it!
Even if you’re not knowledgeable about the trees names and types, the reddish landscape is still beautiful and soothing!
