Soba Kaburagi
Fomerly located in Roadside Station Asahikawa, “Soba Kaburagi” is now in the food court named “Soraichi,” on the 2nd floor of the Asahikawa Airport. At that time, our writer didn't have the chance to eat there, so this is his first time eating in Soba Kaburagi.
It seems that Nijotei and Gohan-dokoro Asahiya in Soraichi are also affiliated with the Sunriver Company.
The homemade soba noodles at Soba Kaburaki are made with Horokanai’s buckwheat flour. The same noodles are also used in the standing soba noodle restaurant in the JR Asahikawa Station, which is managed by Asahikawa Station Tachibai Shokai.
Horokanai is a village in Hokkaido well-known for its delicious soba and buckwheat.
At Soba Kaburagi, the price of a mori-soba (chilled soba with dipping sauce) and kake-soba (soba in hot broth) is 680 yen. If the soup stock and buckwheat noodles are the same, it would be cheaper to eat at the Asahikawa station.
Our writer ordered the "Kaburagi Tendon" for 890 yen. It was much bigger than the picture on the menu, with two big prawns, squid, maitake mushroom, green pepper and lotus root tempura on rice. Our reporter is a small eater and couldn’t finish all the rice.
At first glance, the restaurant seemed a bit expensive, but this "Kaburagi Tendon" have a good cost-volume ratio.

Teppan-yaki Asato
Teppan-yaki Asato is a restaurant produced by Yoneya Sangyo, a meat processing company in Asahikawa. There are counter seats in the restaurant, where you can see the staff cooking meat on the teppan (steel plate) in front of you.
Despite being located in the airport food court, most of the menu items are reasonably priced at less than 1,000 yen for a single item. This price is surely due its affiliation with the meat processing company
Even if you add the “A set” including a rice bowl and a beef tail soup, it's only an extra 200 yen.
Since our writer was in the mood for Genghis Khan (grilled mutton), he ordered the Genghis Khan with a homemade sauce for 900 yen with the A set for 200 yen. Tora paid a total of 1,100 yen.
As you would expect from a restaurant produced by a butcher, the mutton meat was very tender. This is the kind of place our writer fancy and wants to come again and again. If only the restaurant was located in Asahikawa City instead of the airport.

Ichikyu Daifukudo Asahikawa Airport Store
Ichikyu Daifukudo was established in 1924 and is one of Asahikawa's oldest and most popular Japanese sweets shops. There are three shops in Asahikawa: the main shop in Asahimachi, a branch in Asahikawa Airport and another in the Feeeal Asahikawa shop in the Shopping Park. There are 9 shops in Sapporo and 1 in Hakodate.
Shiratama: rice flour dumpling
Zenzai: soup made with azuki red beans
This time, we ordered the "Shiratama Soft-serve Zenzai" for 450 yen, which was recommended by the shop itself.
The soft and smooth dumpling and the simple taste of red bean paste are as you would expect from a long-established Japanese sweets shop. The combination of these Japanese sweets and the soft ice cream is just perfect!

Conclusion
For the second part of this airport series, we introduced three popular restaurants and shops. Asahikawa Airport has an observation deck where you can see the planes taking off and landing, a flight simulator where you can experience flying, and a food court with delicious food. The airport is a fun place for children and adults alike, so enjoy yourselves !
