About the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in Asahikawa

As the number of infected people is increasing in the city, we are asking every citizen to be careful and, in order to prevent the spread of the disease, we would like you to thoroughly wash your hands and respect the cough etiquette.
Please try to avoid closed spaces, crowded places, close-contact settings, unnecessary and/or nonurgent homecoming and travel as much as possible.

When to consult:
When you have had cold symptoms and a fever of 37.5 degrees or higher for more than 4 days.
(Including the time when you have to keep taking antipyretic)
When you have a strong fatigue (malaise) and difficulty of breathing (dyspnea).

Conditions of consultation:
People who have a fever of 37.5 degrees or higher and have respiratory symptoms and meet any of the following 1, 2 or 3.
1. Has been in contact with someone who have been confirmed to be infected with the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
2. Has been in contact with someone who have traveled or lived in endemic areas within 14 days prior to the onset.
3. There are symptoms of pneumonia that require hospitalization.

To citizens and people staying in Asahikawa:
If you are returning or entering Japan from Hubei or Zhejiang and have symptoms such as coughing or fever, please wear a mask and contact a medical institution in advance before visiting a medical institution. Please inform your medical institution about your staying in Hubei or Zhejiang when you visit the clinic.


About the cough etiquette:
・ When you cough or sneeze, look away from other people.
・ Cover your mouth and nose with tissue.
・ Wear a mask while you are coughing or sneezing.

[People who can apply for an administrative medical examination for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) (February 17, 2020]

・ Persons with fever of 37.5 degrees or higher, respiratory symptoms, and pneumonia requiring hospitalization
(The elderly and people with underlying illnesses, are prioritised)
・ Persons suspected of having a new coronavirus infection by the judgment of a doctor regarding symptoms and the presence or absence of contact with other patients of the coronavirus infection (COVID-19)
People who tested positive for a pathogen of respiratory tract infections other than the new coronavirus infection, and which treatment didn’t work and/or the symptoms worsened.

* Points to keep in mind when conducting medical examinations
The following points should be noted regarding the tests for the new coronavirus infection.
(1) After performing the following tests, if the result is negative, perform the coronavirus test.
・ Medical examination for seasonal influenza
・ Medical examination of pathogens of other common respiratory tract infections
(2) It is not necessary to wait for the result of culture tests that take time to find out the result.

・ If the client has travelled to the Hubei or Zhejiang province or has been in contact with a patient of the novel coronavirus, and has symptoms such as coughing or fever, please ask him to wear a mask and to contact a medical institution. Please inform him to tell his medical institution about his stay in Hubei or Zhejiang when he visit the clinic.

・ Employees should take normal infection measures such as cough etiquette and hand washing.

・ Rubbing alcohol (70% or more) is effective for disinfecting skin and hands, and sodium hypochlorite (0.1%) is effective for disinfecting the surface of objects (Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare).
