Soba-an Mura
From Wikipedia:
Katsudon is a popular Japanese food, a bowl of rice topped with a deep-fried pork cutlet, egg, vegetables, and condiments.
This 30 years old popular soba restaurant, Soba-an Mura, is located in Suehiro.
In its center, there is a large table with seats for 20 people.
Some 4 seats table and tatami seats are also available. The parking lot is large and can park up to 30 cars.
The menu poster displayed "Katsudon set for 1,000 yen" and is advertised as the most popular set. 1000 yen and popular. Nobody can resist to this Katsudon set then.
As “Warm soba noodles are also available” was written on the menu poster, our reporter was wondering on how and what kind of soba was going to be served, and curious, ordered the hot soba noodles & katsudon set.
(Cold soba, usually called mori-soba or zaru-soba, are usually served with sets. Here, hot Kake-soba are also available. Thus, surprising our writer)
The noodles were put in a small bowl and placed where the mori-soba is usually served.
By the way, since the "don" in "katsudon" means "bowl", if the katsudon is not served in a bowl but in a plate, will a katsudon not be a katsudon anymore ? Will it become a katsu-plate ?

Sobaya Fukutoku
When our writer went to the Japanese Red Cross Society for his regular medical examinations, he finished a bit earlier than usual and, even if it was still a little early, Tora decided to eat lunch.
He went to "Sobaya Fukutoku” situated on the 1st floor of an apartment in 4 Jonishi 1-chome. This is his first time coming here.
To win against diseases, he ordered a set of "Katsudon + Soba”.
This is because "katsu" is a homophone of the verb katsu (勝つ), meaning "to win" or "to be victorious".
The katsudon set was at 900 yen, but the kake soba and morisoba were at 500 yen, a very nice price.
The Katsudon set of "Soba-ya Fukutoku" came out in a slightly unusual bowl. In particular, the “choko”, a tableware containing the soba dipping soup called tsuyu, is built into the zaru-soba bowl.
However, this makes the noodles hard to eat. But the katsudon tasted pretty good.

Soba-dokoro Yamanoya
"Soba-dokoro Yamanoya" is located at Nagayama 3 Jo 14-chome along Route 39.
Those soba are called Nihachi soba, they are made with the water from a famous water source located near Asahikawa. The soup is made with high-quality dried bonito flakes and mackerel flakes, and does not use any chemical seasonings or additives.
On weekdays, the “daily lunch” set is popular for its voluminous plate. Our reporter ordered the "Katsudon set” at 950 yen from the “recommended set” column in the menu.
The Katsudon of Soba-dokoro Yamanoya was kind of small, but it was properly served in a bowl. This Katsudon is small but fierce: this is one the best Katsudon our reporter had in his life.
Our writer is now more than ever addicted to Katsudon and has only has eyes for it.
